2021 Construction Updates

Week of June 18, 2021

2021 Swede Town Street Renewal Project (SRP) 

The contractor for this project is Kuechle Underground, Inc. from Kimball, Minnesota. The full time project inspector for the project is Dave St. Dennis. The project will involve the total reconstruction of the streets, including the replacement of the concrete curb & gutters, bituminous pavement, sidewalks, street lights, driveways, sanitary sewer, watermain and service laterals. The city contractor is now on-site and working on removals and temporary water. The following is the tentative schedule for the project:

  • Removals through the week of June 25th 
  • Underground utilities work will begin the week of June 21st until mid-July 
  • Road preparation mid-July
  • Curb & gutter installation end of July
  • Street pavement early August
  • Restoration mid-August 

 

Green Haven Parkway Phase II Project

The project will include constructing a public parkway between Verndale Avenue and Fairoak Avenue with bike and pedestrian accommodations. Garfield Street will intersect the parkway at the existing location as part of the city project.

The contractor for this project is S.R. Weidema from Maple Grove, Minnesota. The full-time project inspector for the project is Al Spilles. The contractor will continue to be working on the underground utilities at the intersection of Fairoak Avenue and Jacob Lane. This intersection will remain closed thru the week of June 21st.

                      Local business access shall utilize Highway 10 Service Road and Verndale Avenue.  

 

Mississippi Community Park Riverbank Stabilization Project

This project will address the eroding riverbank along the Mississippi River over the past decades. The project will consist of the removal of mature trees and vegetation. The riverbank will be stabilized by re-grading the bank to a stable slope and will be covered with filter cloth and rip-rap at the toe of the slope. The upper portion of the slope will be graded and covered with erosion fabric. After the work is completed, the riverbank will be restored with a variety of native grasses and erosion control blanket. Live willow cuttings will be planted within or immediately above the rip-rap to provide additional slope stabilization and additional erosion control.  The contractor for this project is Sunram Construction, Inc. from Corcoran, Minnesota. The contractor will tentatively schedule is to begin early August and final restoration by mid-October. Preliminary removals have begun. Work will continue later this summer. 


Anoka County CSAH 7 Pavement Rehabilitation Project 

As part of Anoka County’s pavement rehabilitation program, this construction season Seventh Avenue (CSAH 7) will be milled and overlaid from Buchanan Street to 600 feet north of 38th Lane. Buchanan Street will be milled and overlaid from CSAH 7 to 510 feet west of CSAH 7. The contractor has completed all of this work in Anoka and only minor punch list items remain.

Anoka County TH 47 & CSAH 116 Intersection Improvements 

This construction season Anoka County will be improving the intersection of Trunk Highway 47 & County Road 116/Bunker Lake Boulevard. This project will increase intersection capacity by providing additional travel and turn lanes. The contractor is on-site and the project will be completed by November. MnDOT Highway 47/169 (Ferry St) Resurfacing Project 

This construction season Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) will be resurfacing Highway 47 from the south end of the Mississippi River to Clay Street and from Pleasant Street to just south of Industry Avenue/Bunker Lake Boulevard. As part of the project, BNSF will be repairing a “broke rail,” which will require a full 2-week closure of the highway that is tentatively scheduled for August. The contractor for the project is Valley Paving and the tentative start date is July 26th with a  completion date of October 15th

MnDOT Highway 10 Corridor Improvements Early Work Contract

This construction season Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) will begin some of the mitigation improvements under an Early Work Contract for the Highway 10 Rum River Bridge Replacement & Corridor Improvements Project. 

The work that will be completed, at the intersection of TH 47 (St. Francis Blvd) and McKinley Avenue, includes the pavement widening along the east shoulder of TH 47 to accommodate a dedicated left turn and a thru/right turn lane to McKinley Street. The restriping of TH 47 for the proposed lane configuration improvements will occur in 2022. 

The work that will be completed, at the interchange of Highway 10 and 7th Avenue, will include the realignment of the Highway 10 westbound exit ramp to align with Pierce Street with a temporary signal. In 2022, the existing signal at the ramp will be removed and the westbound entrance ramp to Highway 10 will be closed. The eastbound exit ramp from Highway 10 will be widen to accommodate a “button hook ramp” from southbound 7th Avenue to eastbound Highway 10, opening in 2022. 

The tentative start date is August 9th with completion in late October.
